Beethoven. He was a natural musician and changed the face of music with his dramatic music ability.

I love Johann Sebastian Bach. His body of work includes so many beautiful pieces. Many of his compositions are not overly complicated to play too which is great for beginners and experts a like. He influenced and inspired so many composers/musicians after him. Without Bach there would be no Beethoven, Mozart or Chopin.

Shostakovich, and Dvorak.
Shostakovich because as David Fanning concludes in "
The Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians"
that:"Amid the conflicting pressures of official requirements, the mass suffering of his fellow countrymen, and his personal ideals of humanitarian and public service, he (Shostakovich)succeeded in forging a musical language of colossal emotional power."
Antonin Dvorák always described himself as "a simple Czech musician," however to me he is a musical genius. "He was a prolific composer, worked in all forms, and his music has a spontaneous freshness that sometimes conceals the skill of its construction. He was a melodist of genius and a superb orchestrator, and, like Brahms, cultivated the traditional classical forms."

Mozart is my favorite. Most of his music is beautiful. I cannot get into the "Requim", though. That is some dark music!
