Wow. I was not expecting such intelligent answers for this question. Keep it up!
Should playing in a BCS championship game positively affect Smith's chances at the Heisman?

The Maxwell is for who is most valuable to his team. Without Quinn, Notre Dame would be awful...well, they are anyways, but they would be worse. The only other player they have is Semardzja (sp?) but he would be nothing without a good quarterback. The Buckeyes would have still been good without Smith with the talent they have.
The Heisman goes to who is judged to be the best individual player overall. If you watch some of Troy Smith's plays against Texas, Penn State, Michigan, and pretty much the rest of the Big 10, he has the most talent. His ability to escape and find a receiver on the run or break free for a huge gain on his own is unrivaled. They have already announced that Smith is running away with the first place votes. If he's overrated, then you are saying that every sports announcer, writer, and coach that I have ever heard speak on this subject is an idiot. That would be an awful lot of idiots in college football.

Quinn has better numbers although they arent better than his junior year. Smith has overcome a rough childhood and made himself the best in the nation at a position he wasnt necessarily expected to play. Smith was recruited as an athelete he could have ended up as a wr or db. He was recruited with Justin Zwick considered a sure thing that never quite happened. Yes Quinn has the numbers but Smith has grown so much before our eyes he is the best choice not to mention the best player on the best team. Quinn incidentally grew up in a suburb of Columbus Ohio. He was set to attend Ohio State but when ND offered a scholarship he went there instead. Had he gone to OSU he would have been redshirted and would be getting a start next year as a junior. Quinn also was thrust into the starting qb job as a freshman when the other qbs had injuries. Quinn will go before Smith in the draft and will make more money overall.

Smith...overrated if you're listening to Buckeye fans saying he's the best QB in the last ANY amount of years
or that he should be a #1 overall pick

Brady Quinn played well agsinst Air Force and North Carolina...
He has NOT had a better year than Troy Smith

I don't think he's overrated. No one is putting him in the same realm as Matt Leinart or Carson Palmer as a QB. I think Brady Quinn will be the better pro QB by far, but Troy Smith has been a great leader for a team that has lost only 2 game in the past 2 seasons. Leadership counts for a lot in the NCAA. I'm no Buckeyes fan, either. My team was responsible for 1 of his 2 losses. WE ARE PENN STATE>

No, I don't think Smith is overrated. He's a very good and talented player who uses his mind to make plays. He has matured over the years at OSU and he should deserve the Heisman. Smith will blow out the competition for the Heisman. The candidates are all very good players, but Smith deserves it and he is better.

One of the big arguments against Troy Smith would be how he had an amazing offensive system built around him. It's pretty hard to fail when you can just throw the long bomb to Ted Ginn Jr., or just hand it off to Pittman. It'll be interesting to see how he does in his NFL team, whoever that may be.

I, personally, believe in Darren McFadden getting the Heisman, but I'm a SEC fan, so what do I know?

He has been underated by NFL scouts. Until the last couple months no one saw him going higher then the thrid round in the draft. Even now most scouts have him rated behind Quinn and Brahm. He is a good player on a great team. It is hard to evaluate wether he does as good at Louisville or Notre Dame. I think most have him on par with his actual skills and think they might have him paged right or possibly underhyped.

OK, come on now individuals first of all, troy smith isn't essentially the most overated heisman off all time (he had one unhealthy sport in opposition to an overly well security) moment, all you individuals who say eric crouch, chris weinke, ron dayne, and so on. are overated heisman winners you're unsuitable the heisman trophy award isn't the who's going to do the pleasant within the nfl award or who may have the pleasant stats within the nfl award IT IS A COLLEGE FOOTBALL AWARD!!!!!!!! it's an award for the participant who had the pleasant tuition soccer season IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE NFL!!!!!
