I really want to get my ears pierced. I am wanting to have them done with the blomdahl system which uses 16 ga (1.28mm) thick ear piercing posts. Will this hurt a lot more than 18 ga (about 1mm or so?) I don't see how people can say ear lobe piercings don't hurt when it is such a thick piece of metal going into your ear. Please answer truthfully. Does it hurt alot worse than a blood test at the Drs or an injection at the Drs which uses thin needles?

I don't see how it can be almost painless when it is such a thick piece of metal going into your earlobes. I am fine with injections and blood tests. How much more does it hurt? On a scale from one to ten. Please answer truthfully.

First of all, you don't have as many nerve endings in your earlobes, so you don't feel as much pain. Pinch the skin on your arm really hard and then squeeze your earlobe really hard. Notice the pain difference.

Second, no one should be piercing your ear with a large-gauge needle. All you need is a pair of piercing earrings and a piercing gun. The earrings are very thin and very sharp and they just go into your ear without pain.

It's really hard to say, because everybody has a different threshold of pain. What is very painfull to one person may not be painfull to another. My own experience with ear piercings... and I have two holes in each ear... is that at first it feels like a bee sting, and was a bit tender or should I say a bit of a warm feeling for most of the day it was done. Now that could be different for other people, but that is how it was for me.

Good luck

Without Freezing the spot (which I find much better) It WILL hurt.... Im not sure about the thickness, but I found ear piercings to hurt initially (more than a blood test) but the pain(sting) seemed brief to me. It lessened very quickly.
I have pierced my own ears a few times (with those piercing earings) and I am NO pain lover.
I am also ok with blood tests.... Its very different I find.
Hope you get a few answers to compare. Good luck :)

it does hurt a bit, but not too much.that's because ears are not so sensitive.also if the person who pearces knows what's he's doing, then he'll know where to pierce so there won't be any blood or ache.
good luck!!!
