How do I go about this. I am very passionate about things that go on in my local area and would like to become more involved in the politics. What steps do I need to take?

funny, ive been thinking the same. i worked closely with a local councillor earlier this year regarding local issues, and if your really passionate about this then its the way to go. from my understanding from my councillor, you have to be on the local electoral register and be nominated by at least ten people by way of signatures to stand as a candidate at the next local election which i understand is every four years. you get an information pack from the council when the time is near to election. it includes your nomination signature information etc. what i would advise, is to write or email your local MP who would have been a councillor prior to his current position, and ask him the formalities and any additional details so you can prepare yourself for the next local election.

in case you incredibly are the variety of person who's status for public place of work because of the fact which you will get a flashy automobile then i won't be able to be balloting for you. And all those interior of sight councillors who courted repute quickly bought out their supporters. keep in mind Derek Hatton in Liverpool? And Ken Livingstone is teetering on the brink. Sorry, costly, won't be able to help you with this one.
