No - don't watch TV whilst eating - you don't concentrate on what you are eating, don't realise what you're doing and are eating mindlessly like a zombie.

Food is made to be savoured and appreciated - it deserves your full attention (that doesn't mean that you can't talk at the same time! I once had a boyfriend who never spoke over dinner as he gobbled everything up! Going to restaurants was NO fun!)

You're probably not chewing the food for long enough - this is also bad for digestion. Some peole advocate counting the chews - say upto 30!! Also, take time cutting and putting the food on the fork - I hope you are using a knife AND fork not just shovelling it in with the fork in your right hand?!

Don't watch television whilst eating as you will miss the feeling of being full and so over eat. The best way to slow down your eating is to become more aware of what you eat, so take smaller bites and actually chew the food properly. Try putting down your knife and fork whilst you chew and don't take another bite until you have swallowed everything in your mouth. I also find that people who rush their food tend not to talk during the meal, so try have a conversation whilst eating and don't talk with your mouth full!

Good luck :)

I have the same problem. I think I eat so fast because my life is so hectic and I am alwasy in a rush. I wouldn't eat in front of the television because research indicates that you are more likely to overeat while watching tv or when confronted with other distractions. One strategy that I use to slow down my eating is to put my fork down after each bite and concentrate on enjoying the flavors of what I am eating. Hope that helps!

Why do you feel it's disgusting?

Once you don't chomp or chew with your mouth open, you're fine. So you eat fast, that's ok, lots of people do. No harm in that, once you're civilised about it!

I would think it was REALLY disgusting if you put food in your mouth, then smack it between your teeth while you chewed it with your mouth wide open, or if you open your mouth every few chews and pop your lips, or if you eat off a knife, or if you have a fascination with scraping every last bit or drop off the plate...

Yes, I think some people are disgusting when they eat, but if it's just wolfing it down, in an acceptable manner, that's ok by me!

Perhaps you don't chew enough, try making yourself count the number of times you chew each mouthful, and extending the number of times.
Put less in your mouth at a time as well, if you are concerned about how quickly you eat.

I notice that it appears the problem you have is the embarrassment you feel that you finish your meals before others. The remedy is simple, put at least three times as much food on your plate than the others , that way you'll all finish simultaneously

I eat fast too, its a bit of a standing joke between my friends. I love to eat good food. I dont see it as a problem, as long as you still have table manners and you're not spraying it over people or its falling out of your mouth!

Perhaps you should take breaks between bites. It not only slows down your eating process so others can catch up, but it also gives your digestive system a chance to do its job better.

Chew with your mouth closed. No tv at the dinner table. Eat slowly.

no, opposite. The more you concetrate on your chewing the slower you'll get.

I eat faster than others, i think its because i want to get nearer the pudding !
