I'm 3/4 Asian and 1/4 Caucasian while my boyfriend is 3/4 Caucasian and 1/4 Brazilian. I"m American and he's English.
Post-college (in 1 year, woo hoo) I'm considering moving to England. However, when we're together there I swear we get looks all the time. It's annoying. When we're in America together, people don't stare as much.

My boyfriend had a convo with his mom the other day that if we got married and had a kid together, people would be racist towards him/her, esp. if we lived in England.

What do you think?

I don't live in England so I don't know, but in the USA and Canada, it doesn't seem to be a problem...maybe because North Americans are from different countries all over the world and are in a "melting pot"...

there's areas of england with racial tension just like in america and especially with terrorism making people jumpy. Honestly i don't think it's the country it's the area you live in. In certain places no one would look twice, in other places you'd have trouble. So be aware of the specific neighbourhood/city you're moving into and hopefully it doesn't matter on the whole. You'll always get someone who;s racist and i think you and you're kids will probably experience some racism at some point but that's regardless of the country.

all the best with it

Damn, is there anywhere in the world where people mind their own damned business? I'd say to you, "Don't mind those who give you looks and say mean things to you. Do as you wish and if they do get violent, take them to court so they can face their punishment. Life is way to short to worry about what some stupid racist thinks of you and your loved ones. When you get a look give them a finger and get it out of your head. Enjoy you life and love your child or child to be. Besides, America is not that much better in that aspect either. The world is as it is. Live your life.

Don't know if British are less tolerant than Americans, and it doesn't really matter: marry the man you love, give him children and don't worry about the rest. Racists are everywhere, we simply don't have to let them rule and affect our decisions.

I am British and not live in the US.....I KNOW we British are more tolerant....way more tolerant than Americans. Your boyfriend's mom has no idea what she is talking about.
