explain why he is your favorite player?
for example my favorite player has been Joe Sakic since i was a kid. He scores so effortlessly yet he works like a mule out there. He is so honest (he doesnt fake penelties or take cheap shots), and he is modest, which is unbelievable with his magnitude of talent.

fav of all time has gotta be mario lemieux.. the talent, the leadership is one thing, but they way he fought off injuries and cancer, then bailed his team out of debt as a co-worker.. then he invites sidney crosby to live with him.. what a great mentor.. and let's not forget the many times he volunteered to play for his country in olympic and world cup championships too. he's also a great leader in the community getting involved in charity work.. he's done so much for the sport, and specifically for the penguins

I agree completely with your description of Joe Sakic. He's the classiest player in the league. I've been a fan since his days in Quebec, good 'ol Burnaby Joe! I've always loved Lidstrom as well. I think he his one of the most talented all around players ever. Always at the top of the league in defense stats, and at the top of the defense men for offensive stats (does that make sense?)

Peter Shaefer #27 for the Ottawa Senators because someone has to give him props. His talents as left winger are awesome, he knows how to play along the boards and can feed the puck to his teamates. Plus personally I think he has most improved since last year on the Sens. And when I met him he was really nice, modest, and funny.

Man that is a tough question.
Currently I have to say Alexander Ovechkin of the Caps. He is just a phenomenal player. They way he moves on the ice and makes moves with the puck is unreal. Scary thing is that he will only get better and better and be one of the best stars in the NHL.
Steve Yzerman was another. His longevity, leadership on and off the ice, and his talent made him a true star.

Paul Kariya..one of the most underrated superstars in the game. I also like Scott Niedermayer, best defenseman in the league.

Darcy Tucker and Tomas Kaberle are up there too, mostly because theyre Leafs. Hopefully they'll stop the losing streak at 6.

I've noticed in the answers some are enswering their favorite and some are answering the best. I'll provide both.
My favorite - Sid the Kid - Living in NW PA we get Pens games on TV all the time and some of the things he does are absolutely amazing.
Best Player - Martin Brodeur - One of the best goalies ever and he continues to play at such a high level that it is amazing.

Rod Brind'Amour.

It is funny who we cheer for as we get older. Rod is 36 years old and he is leading his team in scoring. In fact he is on pace to break his career best of 97 points in a season (which he set back in 1994!). He is a workaholic and leads by example. His leadership rubs off on his entire team and it shows. He is also a workhorse in the face-off circle. No one comes close. His face off win % is near 60%! He wins nearly 17 face-offs per game, the next closest is Chris Drury at 13.

Ryan Getzlaf..
Young, skillful, reliable, intelligent, consistent...

but for someone who's been in the league for a longer time..i'd say Teemu Selanne...(he's very close friends with sakic lol)
just when you think he's out of fuel, he makes a sweet comeback =)..the way he releases his shots...couldn't be at more accurate times.

GO DUCKS!
