I'm asking a serious question here. Why do homosexuals insist on coming out of the closet? Sure, the person can be a wonderful person and an utter joy to be with, but somehow coming out can be and often is a cataclysmic event that drives away friends, family, and other such loved ones. If a person's homosexuality is so vague that coming out is necessary (as opposed to the stereotype who's obviously gay by running around saying "HELLOOOO!!!!"), why not stay there where you're safe? While the vast majority of people (I hear) are tolerant of homosexuality, it still has the power to completely destroy a person's social circle. Why take that risk instead of just keeping it to yourself? (I'm not saying they should be ashamed of it in any way. I'm just wondering why they make such a bold move as actually talking about it.)

We come out because sometimes it gets to hard to pretend to be something your not. You act, act, and act. Then you loose touch with who you really are. When you come you are finally being true to yourself and others. It is hard at first, but then it gets so much easier. You find out who really loves and cares about you.

Good question. And the basic answer is 'Because it's a great way to see who your real friends are.'

Why live a lie? Why should we live our lives only to make straight people feel comfortable? The problem is straight people are way too spoiled. They're too used to getting their own way.

Look sweetie, you're a nice enough guy and everything, but I do not exist for your comfort or your pleasure. If you ask me, straight people as a group need to GET. OVER. THEMSELVES.

When I come out, I see who can accept me for who I really am. I might 'lose relationships.' But so what? They weren't real in the first place, if the little fact that I'm gay bothers people so much.

And yes, I'm glad you said it was a bold move! Because it is. It takes strength, confidence and power to be gay. It's certainly not for wimps.

Have a great day!

Gay people wouldn't have to "come out" if they were permitted to just be themselves like heterosexuals. But society berates and degrades gays so much that most gays hide who they are, and they finally "come out" when they are tired of pretending to be what everyone else tells them they should be.

Hmmm, would you enjoy attempting to live an entire lifetime that is a lie? Personally, I'd rather be alone than have hundreds of friends and family that base their "love" of me on superficial lies.

We 'come out' because we are constantly having to justify what we do with our genitalia and whom we choose to share our beds with, that's why. We are constantly challenged to see our love as being 'sick' or 'deviant' and coming out serves to educate those who see us as 'sinners' or 'mentally ill'.

You can take your love for granted. We can not.
