"
I repair atms as part of my job and I can confirm what others have said, there typically isn't one special keyboard just for drive thru atms. The keyboard on an atm is usually a one fits all kind of part. It's just easier that way, and I'm sure it saves the company money. There are differences on the keyboards, but usually the differences are from bank to bank, not machine to machine. These differences are usually the arrangement of some keys (like the "cancel" and "ok" buttons) and different levels of PIN encryption internally. "

The same reason that in Britain buses have braille on the 'stop button'. I mean, how on earth is a blind person meant to know when their stop arrives?? Either the bus driver has been told, in which case the button isn't needed, or the blind person has someone with them who can push the button!!

I would imagine its because its cheaper to use the same keypad for all ATMs rather than design a new one just for drive-ins.

No idea!! but very funny observation!! I would probably think that all ATM's are standard, and so when installing the ATM, they didn't notice!! Made my day this question!! hehe! lol!
