It seems that many people asking questions here seem reluctant to see a doctor. When a Dr is who they should be asking first. Just curious, not critical . I'm from Australia

It depends on insurance, as the US is perhaps the only industrialized nation without adequate health insurance for all. The cost can range from a $15 co-pay to $100 or more if you have no insurance at all. It's insane - lots of people let minor problems become major ones because they would have to do without something else important (like heat) to pay for a doctor's visit. Then they end up in the Emergency Room of a hospital (at least $400) and may have to get Medicaid (the gov't program for the poor) to pay for that.

I think that the main reason people ask here is because they are too embarrassed to ask a person to their face about their problem .

We, as Americans, are also bombarded with these stupid commercials on the TV, bringing up "new diseases" and advertising pills for every disease imaginable with symptoms that range from "tingling in your legs" to "tiredness", to "irritability".. Since these commercials have started, I have noticed a huge trend from my friends and family to think they have one of these many diseases and to become worried about symptoms they would have otherwise ignored.

As for American health care. We pay for it on our own. If you have no insurance, seeing a doctor is expensive. If you have insurance, you usually have to pay a co-pay. Either way you have to go to a Dr's office and sit and wait and wait and wait (especially at clinics) Thanks to competitive and expensive production cool toys and new drugs we have (which is why we don't have free health care like most countries), combined with the numerous people who call ambulances and go to the Emergency room (because the ER cannot refuse treatment to a person who canno pay) and then cannot pay their bill, medical expenses are UNBELIEVABLE.

Copay for 20?!!!Where do you work? Try 35,40,60

Sure if you have medical insurance through your job it usually isn't too expensive. Depending on your co-pay shouldn't cost more than 20 US per visit. It's worth it if you value your health.

i totally agree with you.

i say to many to seek medical help. treating a problem with peoples general knowledge is not healthy at all even if sometimes you can get a direct answer or not.
