I do not think it will be the end of him. I think going back to the old ball will be the best thing he has done. If he does this and admits that he was wrong, I think it just makes him seem more reasonable and improves his position. The guy is a jerk, but if he can admit to screwing up and work with the players to fix the problem, then he is the right jerk for the job.

I don't think the New Ball fiasco is really all that bad for David Stern. I think the real issue is how terrible the officiating is and the fact that David Stern protects the referees by fining coaches and players. I'm not sure if Mark Cuban actually said "You're league is rigged" last year pertaining to David Stern's NBA but I definitely think there is truth in such a comment.

David Stern actually saved the NBA because players in the 70's had given the NBA a bad reputation which issues such as drug use. He turned the NBA into such a money making corporation with his marketing approach. Combined with the 1994 Major League Baseball strike and and the dominance of Michael Jordan in the 90's, the NBA has pushed ahead of baseball while basketball and football are both the premier watched sports in America ever since.

David Stern's legacy is his marketing greatness. This ball issue is like water under the bridge compared to good things Stern has accomplished as commisioner.
