There's a lot of motivation for NL West players and managers to take redemption. Bruce Bochy, the longtime Padres manager, found a new opportunity to turn an aging team in San Francisco into contenders again after making the Padres the best in the West. Dave Roberts just follow Bochy to the bay area. Jason Schmidt wanted to stay in the West Coast to be closer to his family in Seattle, but the Mariners wern't going to win anytime soon, so he chose his rival Dodgers to spite the Giants on what the franchise is losing. Luis Gonzalez wasn't welcome in Arizona after 8 years of service which includes their World Series win, so he went to the Dodgers to prove that he's not fragile as the D-Backs thinks. Bud Black, the former Angels pitching coach, found a winning opportunity in the Padres.

Yeah, you are right. Players are going all up and down the Cali coast. Part of it has to do with Padres following their coach to San Fran. Everyone else just wants to stay close to home.
