I just got a new ipod and installed the startup disk, but now, when i try to transfer MP3's onto it, it says that they're unsupported media. How can I transfer all my music onto it without having to buy new music?

How have you transfered your music? It is easiest to transfer it using the itunes integration. I have found that to be very easy with no problems at all.

On thing to note is that the ipod displays music by using the ID tags on MP3 files. You can edit these through itunes, so fire up itunes and check you have these values set and use it to transfer to your ipod.

Strange, ipods should have no problems with mp3's, and as far as I know, there are no protected mp3's yet. I assume you use Itunes to transfer the songs to your ipod, have you tried to import the songs in itunes first? Usually itunes tries to convert any music that isn't supported by the ipod to music that is. If that doesn't work, maybe something is wrong with your ipod, and you should contact Apple.

Edit: drag and drop does not work with an ipod

do you use Napster? or some other DRM program like Yahoo Music? These files contain DRM or digital rights managment protection that will not allow you to play your MP3's on your ipod. You must have a compatible "play for sure" MP3 player. A list of them can be found below. Trust me, I learned this the hard way when I bought my beautiful new ipod. Good luck and I hope this helps

How exactly are you doing this?

I think there's ways to set up your ipod so you can just drag and drop music onto it, but the recommended (easiest) way is to download itunes from their website, and then import the songs (File > Add folder (or add file))

All your music will get formatted correctly, and then you just have to hook up your ipod again and they will all transfer automatically.

Ipods, run a database of the music you put on it and rename each of the files. So unless you load the music on with Winamp running ml_ipod plugin or ITunes you wont see the music. The music will instead be on there stored as though your using the ipod as a harddrive.
