by number of human deaths a year:

- viruses, or bacteria, lead by far, killing tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) a year. A virus may not count as an animal since it can, among other things, not self-replicate - but a bacterium can self-replicate, feed, move, etc.

- if you want bigger animals then the deadliest have got to be insects. You have mosquitoes that spread diseases that kill tens of thousands of humans per year. Or you've got bees or wasps, each killing a fe thousand human beings a year world-wide

- if you want still bigger animals, the death toll is much, much lower. I think there are about 100 deaths from tiger attacks in the world, per annum, for example.


What about man? Human beings kill a few hundred thousand of their fellow human beings, each year, in the world. So that may well make them the deadliest animal of all, after all

Depends on how you want it to kill you. As far as straight out killing, I would say one of the Big Cats, either Lion or Tiger or a Cheetah. Or a Grizzly, but it will play with you before it's 12 inch paw smacks your head off. As far as poison, there are alot of poisionous animals, but the worse has to be the Sidney Funnel Weaver spider, it's fangs are so long it has to stand on it's hind 4 legs to bite, once it bites, it's fangs go in so deep you have to pull it off you, and if you don't get to a medical site you will die in 8 hours. Probably second is the Brown snake, also in Austrialia. I can also think of a Great White, being tore to shreds by 450 teeth, or being stung to death by a swarm of very mad Killer Bee's. Well, now that I think about it, WE are the most deadly animal on this Planet!!!!

Death tolls are one way to look at it, but that depends on the number of encounters, etc. I can slap a mosquito in a face off. To me, the question means which animal would you least like to fall into a zoo cage with.

An elephant or hippo might ignore me (if I'm lucky). However, a polar bear will break out the salt and pepper. And they are a lot bigger than any cat.

i was watching a show on the discovery channel,and they were showing the top 10 most feared animals on the planet,and i think they said the wolf was the most scary,deadly,and most feared.but i think there is no number 1,cause there are alot of ties between alot of them when you bring in alot of factors say if you were to put them in senarios or debate about whats more effecttive,etc..lol to hard to answer this question.

Hippos kill the most humans in the wild through out the course of the year, and in populated areas deer because people hit them with cars
