It is very hard to fight the corrupt people because they have influence due to power and money. They can bribe the policemen and miltary personnel or hire killers to kill the complainants.

Democracy does not leave a lot of room for honesty. There are honest politicians in the world, but the situation is so that in a democracy they cannot possibly become successful. Some of them achieve power in the Third World, and there are CIA programs and military options available for correcting that problem.
A dictator like Castro, for example, simply kicked out the mafia from Cuba. Can you imagine such a simple solution in the spider-web of northern politics?
We love democracy (and ignore the crimes of the great democracies) because of the material prosperity that is associated with it (sometimes justifiably), hence, we are corrupt!

Unfortunately money speaks. People have tried campaign finance reform laws. On some levels they work, but people can always lie. Politicians rarely put themselves out on the limb for anything that would impact their financial well-being. As a politician you are basically a salesman, selling yourself as the product. How many salesmen are really honest about their product to customers?

That shows honesty politicians fear of losing their base, that depend on dishonest people.. Every one has vested interest in allowing corruption scot free.

because in politics honesty is only staying bought they are all bought long before the election the payment is in the form of campaign contributions
