Before sewing your ribbons or elastic on your pointe shoes, please have your dance teacher approve them.
(instructions recommended by Gaynor Minden)
1. Cut 4 pieces of ribbon, approximately 22 inches, each.
2.Find the proper place to attach ribbons by folding down the back of the shoe,so that it touches the sockliner. Use a pencil to draw lines at the creases.
3. Place the back edge of the ribbon against the pencil line. The end of the ribbon should be all the way down by the sockliner. Angle the ribbon so that it is on the diagonal. Don't sew through binding.

I usually do my daughters pointe shoes and the position that the ribbons are sewn on is found by folding the heel in and down onto the sole of the shoe. Where it naturally folds is where the ribbons are sewn. I then usually get my daughter to put the slipper on and tie it so I can then gather where the ribbon needs to be cut. I then use clear nail polish on the ends so they dont fray. My daughters ballet teacher has said that she should not have a left and a right for her shoes, rather they should be alternated. I dont know if I have explained this well enough, but hope you find it helpful

ok well i just sewed my pointe shoes last night.
1.get them approved by the teacher
2. cut them in 4 equal parts and maybe ask the teajcer to mark the shoes so you know where they go
3.sew it on the inside of the shoe and what satys on the longest is if it goes like a little rectangle
4.the inside ribbon goes across teh foot and around the leg once and then the ouside goes across the foot and around the leg once then cut it shorter and then to keep them in better tuck them in from the top even the knot it looks best that way.
5.after cutting it put clear nail polish on the ends or run a match across the ends so it doesn't fray
hope that helps!!!! good luck!

What I would do is ask your ballet teacher to help you because you might sew them wrong if I explain. be sure to burn the edges before you sew them on you shoes. First cut them the same size and tie them then you can cut the ribbon to the right size.
