Argh! Quit slamming it, you're making you're problem worse! The problem is probably the latch plate moving slightly. To fix it.....
1) grab some 3 in 1 spray and give the latch mechanism a quick blast. Check the latch finger still works properly. If it does, proceed to step 2.
2) look at the latch plate (which the lock locates into). It should have two bolts either side. Just loosen these two bolts and shuffle the plate upward. They're designed to allow adjustment of several mm. Retighten the plate, check it closes. If not, loosen again and move further up.
What happens is over time, the slamming of the boot pushes the plate down slightly, until eventually the latch finger doesn't have quite enough reach to go over the plate. and thats why you have to give it a good whack.
Hope that helps. It's a piece of cake job, take you five minutes.

Like other cars, the metal "bar" that anchors the lock mechanism is fixed by two bolts (this is located in the main car body, not the boot lid which opens up). Look for this and see if the holes have adjustments-if they have loosen them and try to get the best position for your boot. If no more adjustments, you can file the holes somewhat so you can adjust the metal "bar". Hope you undestand what I am trying to tell you-better seen than read.

go to scrapyard and find one with a boot that shuts well, take the boot catch off and put it on yours, its probably bent, hubby is a mechanic, and spent many of time in scrapyards with him cheaper than main dealer
