How long is a 100,000 word manuscript, translated into a novel? What is the average words per page, so I can get a rough idea of where I would be at if I was writing a book? I know pages and words don't matter in the end; if you have said what you want to say, but I would still like to know.

The average correctly formatted page of a manuscript has 250 words (double spaced, 1 inch margins all around (turn off the orphans/widows control) Usually Times Roman, 12 point font)

That makes your finished manuscript 320 to 380 pages (words per page vary due to dialog) for a 100,000 word novel.

Agents/publishers have varing guidelines for what they want as to length of novel, some genres are accepted at 60 to 80 thousand, others 80 to 100 thousand. Your market also has to be considered. Mass market paperback, and Trade paperbacks need not be as long as hardbacks.

AND one more thing. Even after you've said what you want to say, and if a publisher (or agent) looks at your work, they will most likely have lots to say about the length and revisions (adding or cutting) BUT that is for later. First you have to write something they want to put into print.

200 to 300.

But the key of planning your words on one page is that close to the end of a right-hand side page, you must write something intriguing to keep the reader flipping.

It depends on the font, the spacing, the grade level you are writing on...I have written 1000 word articles that take 5+ pages when I use certian formatts...
