One more comment- I find, coming from North Amer and living south of Russia in Ukraine that these folks can live on what I can't... they're just better practiced at getting by on next to nothing. So, just because some poor pensioner might be scraping by on $180 a month- I couldn't do it... I honestly don't know how they manage...

Absolutely NO. The average Russian person earns that much. But remember, Russians own their own apartment which was given to them when the Soviet Union was broken up. Also, Russians get money from other sources and don't report it. This can be an extra job, dishonesty, or just plain criminal activity.
Moscow was named the most expensive city to live in the world. St. Petersburg is just a little behind. If you want to live in New York City or London, how much would it cost?

I don't think so... If you want to live in a safe, pretty much comfortable place, you should think about bigger amounts. First thing is your SAFETY, think about it. You may save a couple hundreds $$ on renting, but loose everything in a couple hours by staying there. I do not suggest you eating in a very cheap places, do you think someone will cook you a good meal in clean conditions for a Little price? I don't think so... Think...

Good luck,
Svetlana
