White trash?

What do you think of the expression White trash?
what does it mean. What are the charateristics of white trash?
I am not american and it's somewhat difficult for me to grasp the concept. Is it white trash vs black trash?
Does the expression black trash exists.
Is there a racist connotation there.

yes there is a racist connotation here.
Its based on the expectation that whites act a certain way diffrent to other races. So whites that dont uphold that standard ( ex poor, welfare, uneducated) are concidered the trash or dregs of white society.
Black trash doesnt exist because blacks are seen as trash of society in "general". While there are many Blacks that defy this, people dont see it as a standard.Thats why there are more offensive remarks about being "lower class" for black than many other ethnic groups. Get why the whole N word thing is demeaning?

White trash is the equivalent of a ghetto black. they have a tendency to be called trailor park trash because human beings typically call trailor parks the white ghetto the position with blacks it really is continually the projects. so that they are the spouse beater donning, spouse beating, swearing, grimy, rotten tooth, semi-redneck, uneducated whites. A parallel to the black ghetto.

Wondering why the term is allowed on Yahoo Answers when the "N" word and other racial slurs are not. Seems funny, some how, that "cracker" is also allowed.

It is a racially descriptive term that supposedly identifies Caucasian people with poor morals and chosen poor living conditions.

when i think of "white trash", heres what comes to my mind (hope i dont offend anyone): dirty, poor, always has a beer in hand, 8 kids out of wed-lock with no fathers around, living in a trailor or very small house, no job, living off the state....

as for "black trash", i dont think the term exists, but there are people of all races that are "trashy"

"Trash" literrally means rubbish and the word has sometimes been used to criticize people with bad fashion sence i.e. "Her dressing was too trashy!"

Hence I think "White Trash" is along that line, implying that white people are full of it ... it defintely has got racist connotation!

It doesnt really have to do with races. It has to do with poor white people who are dirty and broke, live in a trailer, basically poverty and much lower
