look U can use html , Java Script , PHP and Ajax depending on what U need to do and U can use a compination of them all but:
html is :
good because U can handel any line on it and it is simple to be written.
bad because it won't give U all the features U want to make and it will make just static web site.
Java Script is:
good because it makes more features available and makes the site looks good by it's scripts.
bad because some scripts make errors with another scripts when they are together in the same time.
PHP is:
good because it handels more and more features and make it available to interact with site visitors.
bad because some times U want to make something with it and U'll search all the internet to find how then U'll discover that U have a so simple way to make it :S :).
AJAX is:
Perfect because it is a good compination between the Java Script and the PHP so it makes any thing that U see this day hard like draging an item on the page and droping it on another item then some action happens without refreshing the Page.
bad when U click back in any time U'll find Ur self in another page than the real previous page sometimes.

then to be very well rounded... it has to be rewrote for macs browers
and other browers like netscape, opera ect ect
