As far as i know i think spotting in the first trimester is quite normal, especailly around the time you'd normally have a period. If it really is causing concern maybe your frind should visit the doctor. I hope it turns out to be nothing but spotting.

Spotting during pg. should be a cause of concern since in normal pregnancies that does not occur. so please just take her to see a doctor to determine the cause.
for i had a friend with such a situation and it was detected that she has a short cervix and assited her, so tosort out the cause earlly will prevent a major complication if there is any.

First off, calm down. Then have her see the doctor and get it checked out. Spotting does happen and can be a serious sign of something but until you get it checked out, don't panic. Don't ignore it either.

No it doesn't mean she will lose the baby. People can bleed for any number of reasons but she is better to get checked and find out why she is spotting.

Some spotting is normal throughout the pregnancy. If it becomes closer to a light flow she definately needs to get to the doctor ASAP!!!
