I agree with you.
Its a cycle.
The empire rises, reaches its peak ( the US is at its peak now) and it collapses.
It is natural.
The US can't take it for granted that it will be the worlds' only superpower for ever!!

I think its different than it was then. There were threats during the Roman Empire, threats that could care less whether it became a different nation or several others (or at least they didn't anticipate what would happen, or it was unforeseen).

If something like that happened to the US, even though some messed up things have happened, the UN will step in and prevent it from happening or attempt to keep it as a nation. But I think thats only going to happen if from an attack outside.

If it were within, then perhaps the country would change, but why? Who would do this and with what army, literally! I think there are more forces (as in different factors) than there were back then in Roman times that would hinder the success of a modern civil war within the US.

If the salmon keep living we have hope. If they don't, it's an indicator of the singleminded moneymaking world resource using big business mindset that will snowball the world to it's current end. Without moderation as a part of our schemes we might as well just be lemmings launching ourselves happily to whereever. Money doesn't have a concience, you and me do, if we let money make the decisions money will use us up despite any crappy old borders.

A lot of experts say that China and India will surpass/match the size of the US economy within the next 50 years. The US may suffer economic losses, and be forced to cut down its military size. That would lead to a forced withdrawal of forces and military bases from countries around the world. The US would lose its power of influence around the world. A lot of anti-American sentiment among the younger generations may lead to wars against the US and Israel, as they hold an extremely controversial alliance.

The US is a relatively new country, we're still trying to find a nice equilibrium to rest on. Most countries are.

So even if it looks like we're on a decline now, it doesn't mean much, we'll just bounce back again later on.

The U.S.A. will be destroyed from within, by misguided, uneducated socialists.
