I look for the number which occurs most often. Let's say an 8 .I check in the lines or cubes to see where there are two 8s, and thus i know where the third one goes.
For example, I find it in the first cube 1st vertical line, 2nd cube 2nd vertical line, the 3rd has to be in the 3rd cube 3rd vertical line! Then I look at the horizontal .
Always start with what's just right there!

Usually, I have to do Sudoku in pencil, because my method can be a bit time consuming.

I go block by block and pick out every potential answer available to that square. As answers are produced, I erase more and more possibilities until I have achieved a result. In the harder Sudoku, it sometimes gets to the point where that no longer becomes effective however, and I take an educated guess, eliminating 1 answer. All of these answers I write in upside down to keep track. If this proves incorrect, I go back and insert the other in the 50/50 possibility, which I now know to be correct.

I approach every puzzle the same then settle into a series of systematic process of elimination by row, column and block. It sounds more complicated than it really is.

By Numbers, taking the easiest first and eventually having one free space with a number not used in there before

I kind of have to look over the whole puzzle to see what I can easily fill in first.
My strategy seems to vary by puzzle.
It's addicting, right?
:)
