I started feeling my baby just a little into my 16th week. Only, I didn't know that I was feeling baby until well into my 19th/20th week. Even when I'd my 18 week ultrasound and saw the baby moving on screen, I couldn't convience myself that what I was feeling, wasn't gas.
I never got the flutter feeling. It always felt like random thumps at first. Now they're consistent thumbs or very obvious kicks/punches to make my belly pop out.
At first, it's difficult to distinguish between gas and fetal movement. Especially if it's your first because you're unsure of what you should be feeling. Once it happens more, you'll be used to it though and therefore should easily be able to tell baby from say, last nights supper.
Time is all it takes.

At the stage you are in pregnancy it is very likely fetal movements. Usually, fluttering is pretty much what you feel. Gas and intestinal spasms can cause what feels like fetal movements, and when you first feel the movements you can't always be sure. Later, though, the baby gets so strong that it is clear it isn't gas or spasms.
You may be able to make it happen by lying super flat and stretched on your back on a bed, so your abdomen gets kind of caved in with your arms over your head.

it is possible that you are feeling the baby the first movements to me were a little like gas there is no way to really tell if it is baby moving or gas though, usually you know your own body and what is normal. I remember feeling things and thinking the same thing as you was that baby I just felt ect

Sounds like you're definite feeling the baby - 16 weeks give or take is just about when plenty of women start to feel the baby moving, even though he/she has been doing so since very early on. It's an amazing feeling, no?? :-) Congrats!
