How about an answer from a frequent traveller to the Middle east?
The media and word of mouth are making a big deal out of the situation in the middle east. There is absolutely nothing to worry about, I honestly do not understand why are people with no travellling experience in the middle east are all of a sudden discouraging you and others not to go!
It is perfectly safe, I have been in & ouf of Egypt at least 4 times during the past few months. It is perfectly safe, they do not go around killing foreigners nor has there been any major political events. Things are very stable here, nothing to worry about. As for Tour companies, I am listing below the web sites of a few good local ones. I also suggest you book with a travel agency from your country to make things easier.

ps: make sure you take a nile cruise, awesome experience.

Look, if you are going to wait until "it's over", you'll die before then. Might as well try your luck and have a good time, but take precautions. There's problems everywhere for whatever reason, not necessarily against the US -- so be careful who you associate with, how you behave and especially what you sayabout the host country you're in to anybody. In the 1970s and 80s I travelled throughout Europe and was begged by my family not to go thru Western Germany and Ireland because of the terrorism there, but I went anyway. I saw what I wanted and made many friends of which I still have today. There were 'incidents' of which thankfully I was not near, but if you travel abroad these are the chances you have to take. And please dont go over with a chip on your shoulder and be the "Ugly American". Just because you are one doesnt extend to you any special rights or privileges. Remember 'when in Rome, you do what the Romans do'. If they eat pizza with a knife and fork, then do so - and so on... If you are a woman and you wear tight jeans or short skirts, do expect the men to harass and molest you. These countries have 'dress codes', brush up on them before you go. Use a good local travel agency to book you for tours and give you info on things I suggested. Have fun - Egypt and Jordan have a lot of English speaking people so you will have a great time!

Egypt and Jordan are safe, a couple of incidents took place long time ago, but it happens also all around the world these days, I don't think you need to worry about that, both countries are very nice to see.
It would be much cheaper if you take the deal from your country, and make all the reservations from there.

Why don't you book a free and easy tour from your own country's travel agent and let them recommend you a good agent in Egypt/Jordan.
When you buy a free & easy tour the package always include hotel, airport transfer (usually they will arrange people to pick you up from the airport and fetch you to the hotel) & air tickets, you can also ask for extension of your trip from the travel agent.

I am Egyptian, & I can tell u that in spite of terrorism (which can happen anywhere worldwide) Egypt is still one of the safest countries in the world.. Saying that I quote several foreigners who lived here for a while & actually loved it.
We didn't have any terroristic attacks since the last Taba Bombings (THANK GOD).. The local police is v careful to avoid new attacks, & they take even extra care of tourists & touristic places.. They have done well so far!
I do hope u enjoy ur stay!

I'm an American living in the Middle East and it's really safe. The media at home really over-hypes everything. You'd be surprised most Arabs really like Americans, and are very quick to make the distinction between people and government. Anyway, Egyptians and Jordanians are really friendly - you'll have a great trip.

I work throughout the middle east and really there is no problem. Most people are happy to see you, because they depend on tourism! I have pasted a couple of links for you to look at I hope they help.
I hope that you have a great time visiting these historic and beautiful places.
Also before you leave, visit this site and it will tell you of any travel restrictions or an elevated level..
