Hello, I blew out my DVD burner power adaptor by plugging it into the wrong hardware. It is an imation 8x single-layer only external burner, if it matters. I cannot afford a new one right now, is there any way to replace the adaptor only instead of buying a totally new unit? I took it to a large electronics store but they couldn't do anything about it.

In response to the first few answers, no, the burner will NOT work with a universal adaptor. I have three of these.

Secondly, I use a laptop, so I cannot use an internal burner.

You could buy one of the universal ones, just make sure it will fit before you buy. Also, an internal DVD burner will only run you $30-$40 and is very easy to install, just in case you are interested.

In department stores like Walmart, or at Radio Shack, where they sell the universal remote controls, they sell universal power adapters. The adapters come with different connections to plug into your DVD (hopefully). The power adapter has a switch you can slide to pick the right milli voltage. On your old adapter it should list the millivolts (mV) like 3.5 mV. Price? Well I think around $20 on up.
