Your right it should be legal.

There is not a logical reason for the difference. It is just historical. And as some have mentioned, it does have something to do with the liquor industry. They did feel that folks would turn to it, and not go back to booze when prohibition ended and were big lobbyist for the federal act of 1938 making it illegal. The impetus for the original states making it illegal was in the Southwest and Rocky Mountian int 1910-1920--and it had to do with anti- Mexican immigration. Then some states int he NE outlawed it--felt it would be used as a substitue for heroin (which had recently been made illegal) or alchohol (which was illegal due to prohibition and dry laws).

At this point it is just stupid. There is not a real good reason for it to be illegal and alcohol, but less tobacco to be freely available and legal.

Because the government needs to treat its citizens as little children and try to control there lives. Tryig to decide what is morally right and wrong and instead of letting us deal with consequences and run our lives, they try and do a hal *** job for us. Kind of funny, now certain forms of gambling are illegal with the bullshit excues its to prevent decay of families, when everyone knows its simply because the gov't doens't have a good enough way to get there cut yet, and as soon as they do, it will be legalized and regualted again.... just like alcohol... as soon as they hae a away to control weed, you might see it for sale at a high price.

Funny, how many other countries have taken alternate approaches to all these subjects (meaning all 3 are legal) and teh crime rates are less than that of the US....

When they really craked down on weed it was in the 60's and the reason why i think they did is because the hippies and protesters were together and making the govenment look horible. The only thing that united the hippies was weed so the made it illigal. I think it i should be legal but i dont think it will be soon.

It is less hazardous, but the ruling generation believed the hype in the 1930's that said it was harmful. They would rather drink. The problem is the younger generation is believing in the same lies. If everyone who smoked pot admitted to the fact, there is no way it would stay illegal.

Boy, Oh Boy!! This is opening one helluva can of worms!

Let me summarize:

Lobyists (both tobacco and alcohol companies), taxes, regulation, public opinion, history (biblical, etc. [gag]), reputation, control of potency (you 4:20 fans know what I mean), lack of control (it is easier to grow than to distill/brew). That's it, am too drunk and stoned to think of the others that were in my head.

Oh, not exactly THC related, but did you all know that most of our founding fathers were hemp farmers? What a shame that that resource is not legal.

Oh wait!

Ah the alcohol vs. marijuana debate-
there is no good explanation only that is how the current legislation is set up.

Oh I love how they make it sound like driving high on weed is like driving drunk . Its such a far cry . Weed high pales in comparison to alcohol drunk.

I love how they shelter and coddle us then throw us into the rough waters with no way of preservation. love that. They tell us how " bad " all of these things are then once you have done them you relize that its not SO bad.

It should be taxed and sold to adults like alcohol. Having criminals sell it to kids is not a good idea, especially when they have other items to offer. It makes really big problems for people.

because the government can tax "booze" but they, the government, can't tax cannabis. you can grow cannibis anywhere booze is limited to companies that the government can tax thats why "moonshine" is illegal because the government can't tax it.

It is, but the government wouldn't be able to get their cut (taxes), because it's privately sold, and people can grow their own. It's all about the money. There's a cure for the mere common cold, but there's so much more money in the maintenance, we'll never get it.

Many of us have had experience with both! Many folks who do drugs, cannabis included, steal, cheat and rob folks to get their money to purchase it! Some don't! They tend to cause to many problems for others! Most folks who drink don't do these things! Some street trash do!
