In response to neernar - you're already wrong it is easily the second most popular sport in the world. Over 3.5 BILLION people watched the last world cup final! That is more than watch the baseball, basketball and gridiron combined.
Only football attracts more spectators.

You don't start playing cricket because you want to make money, it's a world sport and just like any other it attracts attention and hence money gets involved.
Australian domestic first-class cricketers do not make anywhere near as much money as say the Aussie football players, it's only the ones elevated to the Australian team that make the big bucks.
You play a sport because you like playing it, and if you're good at it and can make a living from it, what's wrong with that?
