People pen down their thoughts, perceptions, experiences etc. on paper so that piece of information or knowledge is available to everyone at large irrespective of geographical or time barriers.
It is because of their writings the world remembers Prem Chand, Sarat Chander, Gurudev, Leo Tolstoy, Shakespear and all other great writers.
There is no substitute for books.
