Always wear gloves for household tasks that involve immersing your hands in water. Use a heavy barrier cream to help protect the skin from dehydration. So, don't stint on the hand cream - even if you think your hands are still in their prime.
Exfoliate 2 or 3 time weekly and last thing at night use hand cream to help to rehydrate the skin.
Every time you use hand cream give your hands a mini-therapy:
Rub cream into your knuckles and finger joints using small circular movements, followed by a pulling motion to ease the joints.
Use your thumbs to massage the backs of the hands upwards in the direction of the wrist to clear any congestion.
Every bit of extra protection will contribute to their rehabilitation - which can be surprisingly swift.

For a cheap and easy fix I use some of my St. Ive Apricot Scrub. It's for the face but it works well on hands, dry elbows, or any dry spots that you have from daily wear and tear. Rinse with warm water to remove scrub. After wards I put some lotion on and put on rubber gloves and do house work around the house. My hands come out the gloves all nice a smooth. Hope it work for you!

Get some plastic cling wrap (used for food storage) and wrap your hands with that and lotion. Sleep every night like that for 1 week. You can use lotion, or Aloe, or my favorite is cocoa butter. If you need the skin on your feet to soften also, you can sleep with socks around the plastic wrap, so that it's more comfortable for you. Also, try not to use harsh cleaning agents. Try vinigar and lemon extracts as cleaning sources. You can keep a bottle of this in your kitchen, and it keeps things sanitary. Harsh chemicals like bleach and clorine inhibit the natural moisture in your skin. Take vitamins also. A daily multivitamin, with lots of water, will help with moisture in your whole body. You will even feel that your eyes are not so dry. I've found that a good multivitamin helps with a lot of skin/hair/eyes issues. Try a multivitamin from this company. They have an excellent customer feedback, and through researched scientific study about their products. I personally use their Nutrilite Daily Multivitamin. I think it's affordable and it's excellent for everything. My husband likes the DoubleX. He finds that it helps him concentrate better, and work more efficiently. He tells me that it makes him feel wonderful all over. Good luck, and hope you find your answer!

Take a lemon or a lime and cut it in half. Squeeze out the juice (make lemonade or marinade a chicken, or something), and then turn the half inside out so the fleshy part is on the outside.
Put a spoonful of sugar into the palm of your hand, and rub it with the lemon/lime and use it as if it were a bar of soap. Then rinse, and you'll have soft, lemony-fresh hands.

the easiest answer is moisturizing lotion especially for the hands. And not just any normal hand cream. Go out n buy yourself a hand cream for dry or extremely dry skin therefore more moisturizing. Does not need too be brand or expensive. apply morning & night on clean hands & if you dont have the time. You can apply it on after the shower. Try avoiding harsh chemicals as much as u can. And if your cleaning & stuff. wear gloves. You can also buy cuticle oil & apply on your cuticles if they tend to crack or dry or peel.

To make hands softer:
Before you go to bed lather your hands with Vaseline.
That's right the gooky stuff in the jar. Just pack it on your hands. Then put on those disposable plastic gloves (like you use when you color your hair). The warmth of your hands in the gloves will melt the Vaseline and your
skin soaks it all up. Next morning you wash your hands, and
they will feel so soft.

The best thing that I have found is OLIVE OIL. Its great for just about anything. My great grand-father used this age old remedy for just about everything from scars to the removal of moles. Just apply it 4-5 times a day and you'll see a difference before long, I promise. Good luck with what ever you decide and have a Merry CHRISTmas.

I use something called Aquaphor and put rubber gloves on to help this stay on at nite while I sleep. I have used this many years because my career was medical working with patients and it sure worked for me. Good Luck, hope it helps, that stuff also helps heal up skin from abrasions in very short time

Lotion, lots of lotion. Keep a bottle of lotion in your room, your bathroom, in the car, at school/work.
If you can lather up your hands in lotion, and then slip on a pair of very lightweight cotton gloves before bed, it will help.
Also, wear protective gloves when you wash dishes or do housework, to protect your hands from the chemicals.
