I just bought a razr cell phone off ebay (its a verizon one) so that I could use it abroad with an international sim card. But now I'm reading on here that verizon phones don't work outside of the US/Verizon. Is there any possible way? And aren't razr's gsm compatible or something? Thanks

Unfortunately since that Razr is the Verizon model that means it is a CDMA phone. CDMA or Code division multiple access, is a technology primarily used in the U.S. If you want a phone to work internationally you will have to get one that uses GSM technology. The only carriers in the U.S. that use GSM, or Groupe Spécial Mobile, are T-mobile and Cingular. Also when purchasing a phone that you wish to use outside the U.S. make sure it is a tri-mode or quad-mode phone. This will insure that your phone will work on the same MHz frequency (900 & 1800) as those in Europe. Now if you plan on vistiing asia that's a different story, and whole new can of worms, if need be post a question on that too.

i might advise utilising Verizon from my own adventure. i've got had their provider ever because of the fact that i first have been given a cellular telephone and that is because of the fact I haven't any reason to alter :). I often on no account have any dropped calls and the only time i don't have provider is in a particular construction that's designed to not enable cellular telephone alerts in or out and consequently the different provider carriers do not artwork the two. whether that's for business enterprise, A blackberry on Verizon may well be a super replace on your Galaxy, thinking they are created with the business enterprise person in concepts. good success including your selection!

okay so i was in the same situation. europe uses a differnt system thing for their cell phones- i dont know the technical name for it. but i also go a cheap cell from ebay to use their. the trick is to buy an UNLOCKED one so that when you go abroad you can buy a sim chip there (i got a prepaid one- i think the company was called Orange or something). if you cell isnt already unlocked you can get it unlocked for $30-40, but sometimes its hard to find a place that will do it. you ahve to go to a cell store that isnt just like Tmobile, Cingular, or Verizon, it has to be one of the ones that sell all of those because that way they really arnt competing with eachother so they dont care if you unlock it, or sometimes you can buy a really cheap unlock code off of ebay.

No, the Verizon Razr is not a GSM phone. Sorry. You might want to relist it on eBay.
