I'm wondering if I should go raid or mabye a 10,000 rpm drive instead

The 10,000 will probably give you a better performance increase than RAID 0, although frankly neither is worth the money. If you are looking for performance, spend your money on a better processor, more RAM, or a better video card, the hard drive is really the last thing you should be spending extra money on.

Unless you're driving a lot of I/O, it may not be noticeable. I'd opt for the 10K drive. If you setup a RAID-0 across multiple drives, if any of one of those drives fails, you've just lost your entire volume. So unless you're driving a lot of I/O generating scratch data, then I don't think it's worth the risk. Even if you're religious about backups, it may not be worth the hassle.

If you really need the performance of multiple spindles, it'll cost. You should pick up a hardware RAID controller and setup either RAID1+0 or RAID-5.

probly not really noticable in normal use. Video editing or serious games like WOW you might notice a difference.
