First off questions like this are a mistake, as there is no one answer that applies to millions of people. Also the "majority" of the world is silent and probably have other things to do than bash the US, as a matter of fact I'm willing to bet that most Westernized peoples much like our own people are too self centered and consumerist to care about anything that doesn't affect them. So in that sense you're basing your opinions off of a very vocal minority. As to your actual question, I believe that most people have nothing against America itself but they do dislike American influence in their lives. It has been percieved that the world changes for America and not the other way around. To put it in perspective, what if you turned on your tv and %80 of what you saw, read, ate, or drank came from a country other than your own (hollywood, CNN, coke, mcdonalds) and in a language not your own (American English). This is bound to build some resentment in nationalistic or nativist types. Also what if the aforementioned country was proud of itself and told you that it was better than your country. What we call patriotism, many countries see as arrogance. Everyone loves a winner, but people despise a braggart. Combine this with the fact that we have the strongest military in the world, and chances are have bases in your country, and you can see why certain people may dislike you. Of course from an existentialist point of view, everything and everyone is disliked by someone somewhere. So in this sense, as we arguably have the greatest influence in the world, no doubt we will also garner the greatest scrutiny. So as a simple answer, I believe CERTAIN people dislike our preeminence and influence in their lives and, moreso than that, our pride our preeminence.

I love U.S. I moved here when I was 16 and I love this country. Still, I can see where some people may be coming from. Part of it is jealousy, we live better than most of the world. Part of it is our culture of capitalism, which on it's best day pushes us to become better/more successful, and on the worst day makes us walk all over each other to make another buck. Many other cultures are more communal, there's not as much emphasis on getting rich and making everyone into a consumer. Our country has many rich, ignorant, selfish people. Unfortunately that's all the other countries sometimes see and is of course a very broad generalization. It's no different than saying that all Asians are good at math and all Mexicans are lazy. It simply isn't true. Same goes for Americans. The other part of this is our sometimes very bold foreign policy. We are viewed as someone who likes to play God and should stay out of other people's business. Unfortunately, sometimes we have justified people thinking that.
Also, remember that many countries have very strong propaganda (ours does too, but I'd like to think to a lesser extent). If the government is anti-American, then they will pass this on to their citizens through the media to make them hate us.
One last thought... Since U.S. is still the most powerful country in the world, people can't help but look at us from different angles and analyze what we do and who we are every day. Considering that negative news always makes the headline and we are the topic everyone can't avoid, we are always going to get criticized, even when we didn't do much of anything to deserve it.

The USA being made up of people from around the world has nothing to do with this. It's the country's policies, actions, behavior and attitude towards the rest of the world that a lot of people strongly disagree with or even hate. People have valid reasons to criticize the USA, but sadly Americans can't seem to take criticism and call it all bashing or "anti-Americanism".

I in common words talk ill of football at the same time as at the same time as someone quite annoys me. i'm no longer keen on the pastime, yet i do not HATE it. i want no longer some other thing beneficial than to disregard it thoroughly. It only annoys me very much at the same time as some football fan comes round bashing my pastime(s) and is thoroughly confident they understand what they're talking about.

the countries doing the bashing would rather sit back and let the world rot and let aspring terrorist ruin countries and threaten to exterminate other countries. Since the US is the only country willing to do anything about it (and also Israel), those other countries will bask the US.

Everyone needs someone to blame for their misfortunes and problems... the people who seem to have the most going for them are always the scapegoats
