Then there is another mail that states one of my "relatives" based in Nigeria has died, leaving me $30 million dollars in inheritance which I have to go and claim.

There is another mail that comes from Charles Oboyo, son of Prime Minister of Nigeria about transferring excess funds from exchaneg rates in a US petrochemical project in Nigeria.

Obviously, they need my BANK ACCOUNT and CREDIT CARD details.

How seriously should we take these emails - of course I know they are hoax, but aren't they supposed to be illegal. Shouldn't we report to some authorities and law enforcement.

I am serious about making a complaint against such organizations. Whom to contact?

Puritan,

Someone in the Business section of Answers actually fell for that! No, it wasn't me.

She responded to the email. She sent them a check and they sent her one in return. She deposited the check and it was fake. Her bank is now coming after her for the funds.

I couldn't believe that someone fell for that!

As far as making a complaint, good luck.

these are indeed the newest versions of scam spooge mail designed only to coollect money from gullible people.

Do not fall for anything like this. If you feel you might have a relative in Nigeria who passed and left you American sums of money you will know by proper lawyer contacts. No doubt anyone with rich money has rich lawyers.

There is a fraud alert program established in the American Banking system that any bank anywhere can assist any person who thinks they might have a chance to claim this money. This system of checks will know how to handle the matter.

Sorry I can not speak for any other country, but I am betting the banking systems are universal in certain aspects.
