what's the point, anyway? all cultures have their good and bad traits, and NONE of them are better than the other. it's pointless to have pride in your own race. no, it doesn't even matter if you're filipino, chinese, viet, mexican, or white, because none of them are superior to another. filipino media keeps blabbering about how great filipinos are ("ang galing ng pinoy", o kaya "waw amf panis kayo nadevelop namin yung fluorescent light amf")

don't get me started on japan's tecnological advances, got it? ok, shut up about the dumb fluorescent light idea.

but then, the japanese has some negative qualities in their culture too. you can't compare one over the other. it's like trying to figure out which is more important between a car wheel and a car engine.

NOT proud to be pinoy, not ashamed to be one either. we're all human...skin color doesn't matter, and I'd be annoyed if you keep flashing your color/pride/race on me.

First I don't know how true the claim to the flourescent lamp is. I looked at the patent and the name of its inventor does not sound Filipino. No it was not Agapito Flores. Please see:
http://inventors.about.com/od/filipinoscientists/a/Agapito_Flores.htm

Current trend in the Philippines lately is Pinoy Spotting which is spotting Filipinos who have somehow seen international fame. Pacman is the obvious object of hero worship. But we Filipinos have been so hungry to find something to be proud about that people also talk about the most mundane Filipino claims to fame. Did you happen to catch Bing Loyzaga in Matrix? Or do you know that a certain model is like 1/16th Filipino?

But there is something very empty in all this. In the end, that is not our claim to fame, but the individual's. We love our hero Manny Pacquiao. But we did not knock out Eric Morales. Why do we choose to base our self-perception on the accomplishments of the one-in-a-million hero?

In my opinion pinoy pride is not the pride you just described focusing on the traits of the race. Pride of any kind is being proud of who you are as an individual, no matter your ethnicity. I certainly wouldn't want to be associated with Agapito Flores who now seems to have attempted a scam. And even while I would like to be associated with the Filipino who helped design the Moon Buggy, I don't have the right to it simply because of my race. I am not responsible for the actions of other Filipinos, and it is not meaningful to credit me with their accomplishments. More meaningful is that I do what it takes to be proud of myself.

Stop with the Filipino pride...when it comes to money, they won't help each other like Japs or Koreans. What's there to be proud of when you watch TFC. The shows are the worse in the world. There is no Dialogue and Filipinos cannot act, or sing. All the Flips wanna be singers and just copy, copy, copy...I think The Philippines would have been better off if the national religion was Budhism, Muslim, or Hindu...I don't know what kinda Christianity/Catholiscm Filipinos practice....They keep going to church but won't give money into the donation basket and right after church the Christian religion is not being practiced. Only evilness

Ragdefend is on the right track, it's not about searching for an international example of Philippine influence.

50 years ago this country was the number one in Asia for business, investment and tourism dollars.
Now it is probably a couple from the bottom, so there is nothing to be proud of there.

What Filipinos should be proud of is their remarkable ability to come through disasters, poverty and family problems with pride that they will overcome, and will continue to smile.

They should be proud of their strong sense of family ties, stretching very often to overseas relatives.

They should be proud of their hospitality towards strangers.

They should be proud that they are a very good looking race of people, guys and girls are generally fit, attractive and well groomed.

That's all I have to say right now, I love it here!

What's the point in NOT having it? I think a person should be given a right to be proud of whatever he wants to be proud of and if it's being a Filipino then so be it. Why is there even a need to question it?

but there is nothing wrong with being proud of who you are whether you are a Fiipino or not. There is always a point. It takes a Filipino to understand being a Filipino.

If you try to notice, no one in the world looks up to Filipinos like the way we do to our own people. If we don't say that Filipinos are no good, who else would say that? Are you crazy??? The Philippine media keep telling that thing because they know how good the Filipinos are. The Philippine media must not emphasize on how good othe rpeople from other countries are. What's the point in selling their pride in this country, huh???

The Philippines maybe is in bad condition that's why you see no point in someone's being proud of this country but you have to remember that it's the same Filipinos who will help you in the end... But if you continue to turn your back on us, who would ever save you?

Have you ever thought of that, fool????

you are just confused. it doesn't matter what they think, what everybody wants is to feel good about themselves no matter what others think.
