Which ion is more highly hydrated?

Na+ or Mg2+?
Fe2+ or Fe3+?

Could someone explain how I could tell the difference?
Thanks

The smaller the ion, and the higher its charge, the more heavily is it hydrated.
So Mg2+ and Fe3+ win both times.

Part of the answer is that Be is just too small for many water molecules to crowd in close; magnesium has plenty of room. Water takes up space, like anything else.
