With these sorts of numbers the best way to find the LCM is to break each number into its prime factors.

6 = 2 x 3 and 4 = 2 x 2

Each number's factors has to appear in the LCM's factors.

So the LCM must include 2 x 3 in its factorisation.

4 requires two 2s but there is only on so far so we add one in to get

2 x 2 x 3 = 12 and that is the LCM
