There are any number of reasons to study it. The two most prominent reasons are probably intellectual curiosity and to understand the effects of multiculturalism on the recieving society and the immigrant population. I personally subscribe to the latter. I am very interested in how blacks live in Europe, Asia, and South America specifically in how they are treated and as to their level of empowerment. One scary thing I have noticed is a worldwide disdain for darker complexions. Many of the statistical trends present in America's society i.e. income levels, education, crime, disease, are paralleled in other multicultural societies. I believe that by understanding why this is, we can improve upon racial inequities in our own society as well as the world. Just on a side note, many latin American countries do not get hung up on race, at least on the surface, but one needs only to look at their television personalities, their political leaders, and their wealthy to notice that all seem to be on the lighter end of the spectrum.
