a-rod is easily the most overrated player in baseball right now. dude can't get a big hit if they were playin tee-ball. and i think most third basemen could field grounders barehanded better than gay-rod does with a softball mitt.

It's not Arod's fault that he makes as much as he does. I make $16/hr but if my employer offers me $25M/yr for 10 years, I'll take it. Will that make me work harder? Maybe a little. Will people be jealous because I'd be vastly overpaid and therefore not be able to live up to their expectations? Of course.
He will turned 32 next year and will be pretty close to 500 HRs at that point with .305 lifetime BA. He has over 2000 hits already. He's been the MVP and has the record for most HRs by a third baseman and as a shortstop for a season.
He may not be a playoff performer, but he gets you there. His not riding the pines for game 3 or 4 has nothing to do with him or Torre. His salary, set by Texas, and Steinbrenner created the monster that leads to the idea, how do you bench a guy earning that much money. The Boss certainly wouldn't have any of that and that ties Torre's hands.
His glove work was off this year, but he worked at it. He came to New York as possibly the better shortstop at the time and agreed to play third.
I'm a big Yankee fan and other than the fact that he doesn't seem to be able to nail down his own personality, I don't understand the constant bashing.
The most overrated player? I would say Brad Radke. I like him and think he's a good pitcher, but I find people see him as an All-Star/Future HoFer and I don't agree with either of those suggestions.

I hate A-Rod and hated him even more when he screwed the Red Sox when signed with the yankees. With that said I don't think he's overrated. A d*** yes but not overrated. He chose NY so he has to deal with the scrutiny and pressure. I have to say if he didn't play 3rd in NY he wouldn't have that many errors. Plus Jeter didn't do that much better A-rod and no one is saying anything about him. He's definitely a head case and once he's out of NY he'll be the player everyone thought he'd be. Too bad by the time he leaves he'll be old and s*****. Some people can handle the spotlight some can't. Should've just stayed with the mariners.

A-Rod is not overrated because flat out the guy can play ball...what is true is that the guy cannot play well when he is in the spotlight and does not play well when there is high expectations, but the guy is a great baseball player and needs to be around guys that can carry their fair share of the load and not have to only rely on him...you want overrated...jason schmidt...that guy pitched in the worst division in baseball piling up stats that would not hold up in any other division

Actually, A-Rod is somewhat underrated. But he doesn't belong at third base.
The most overrated player right now: Alfonso Soriano. He's had ONE great year. ONE. And then he gets that contract from the Cubs. Why do I think this will be another chapter of the Cubs falling flat on their faces again? Not that I'm complaining at all...

You're an idiot. I'm an A's fan. I'm not a Yankees fan and hate what A-Rod's contract has done to baseball, but he's already set some of the many all-time records that he'll own by the time he's done. He'll be a first ballot hall of famer and considered one of the greatest ever when he's done. If he stopped playing today, he'd get in the Hall of Fame. I don't think over-rated means what you think it means....
Who is the most over-rated? If you consider estimated worth to be in proportion with pay... Pick one, with the crazy contracts going out... how about 5yr/ $70 million for J.D. Drew, an often injured clubhouse cancer?

yo, a-rod is not the most overrated. hes a really good baseball player. if i had to choose of arod or jeter i'll pick arod. i know what you're thinking, prolly saying im crazy but now you gotta remember when jeter won all those championships, it wasnt because of him. he had really good pitchers behind and some good role players. if you put jeter on a bad team like the rangers would he had produced then numbers arod did? i think not, not even close. and the yankees didnt pay him or offer him that much they PICKED UP his contract from the rangers. they were the ones who paid him that much now the yankees have to finish that contract agreement. hes a player that someone can start a franchise with.

Its hard to be overated when he's getting smashed by the media. He is what he is, probably the best player in baseball talent-wise, that sucks in the clutch. But the guy is still freakin good.
In my opinion, Joe Namath and Peyton Manning are much more overated. Peyton is the A-rod of football.....great regular season QB....sucks in the playoffs. At least A-rod gets trashed for his performances. Peyton gets praised. Even though his individual performances were horrendous and even though he threw his o-line under the bus , blaming them for losses.

A-Rod over rated when J.D. Drew got 70 million? Pleeeeease... Now that is overrated. The RED SUX should have given the other JD as in Johnny Damon the money instead then maybe they wouldn't suck so bad. Theo Epstein...now that is a joke in itself.

If you think he is overrated you are a fool. This season was nowhere near what he can do and he still had 35+ HRs. Even with his playoff drought it is inevitable that he will win a WS with the Yankees and when he does that he will also break Barry Bonds steriod HR record. Sooner or later the morons who boo him will see plain and simple he will be argueably the best player ever. If the Yankees were to trade him they would sadly regret it.

Everyone seems to forget that the Rangers wre outbidding themselves for Arod and Scott Boras, as any good agent will do, simply let it happen. Texas could have signed him for $80 million less, but, that's neither here nor there. Texas screwed up the market for everyone else.
To answer the question, no Arod is not overrated. He's a 1st ballot HOF'er.
