ohio has banned smoking in public places and also made it illegal to smoke alone in a company vehicle ..I.E. my friend works for a.t.t. as a repairman and would be written up if caught smoking in his truck ..a large company like this will follow the laws as they are written.....We're talking about smoke left over from a shift not puffing in someones face ...how sad is this....we've turned into idiots ....

I agree, I think that smoking should be at the choice of the establishment owner. People who built a bar could choose to have a smoking section or not. It would be more fair that way, if the people who wanted that to pass did not enjoy the smoke they could go some where else or stay home. Boycotts would have been a better idea, this is just crazy.

Smoking isn't good for you but.......the whole 2nd hand smoke argument is baloney. The true studies (that the media doesn;t want to show) tell of 2nd hand smoke being practically harmless. Fumes from cars and trucks, and hair products are more harmful. Again, regular smoking isn't the best thing to do, but if you keep it down to a reasonable amount, you'll be alright. If you think Ohio is bad, NJ recently banned tobacco products from all public places except for Atlantic City casinos. That means bars/clubs. Banning cigarettes/cigars from bars/clubs....is that not the most ridiculous law you've ever heard of in the history of lawmaking?? That's the equivalent of someone going to the beach and the lifeguard telling them they can't swim in the ocean. Most people I see in a bar/club like to smoke with their beer/alcohol. Some people enjoy tobacco products with a beer after a hard day's work. I can understand not smoking in a hotel or something.......but a bar/club? The whole thing is a joke...it's all politics and the taking away of freedoms.

There is a difference between a paramedic coming into your house for a short period of time, and a driver being stuck in a smoke-filled cab for several hours. You don't instantly die from second-hand smoke, but it does hurt you over long periods of time, and if you have to stay in a truck (or other company car) that long more than once, it may harm your lungs.

Any law passed that makes ordinary law abiding citizens a criminal is unconstitutional, not to mention the blatent discrimination that smokers are facing daily, go ahead and allow their rights to be violated and the violations will continue until no one has any right including that of freedom of speech than no one will be able to complain about anything anyone is doing.

Non-smoking laws are designed for the long term. These laws will cause more people to give up smoking, which is better for them and for the people they serve. We shouldn't confuse the issue by short term arguments. Smoking is bad for everyone including personal health/economics and socieity----and that is FACT.
