I enjoy the show, however the "SAVE THE CHEERLEADER - SAVE THE WORLD" crap left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The cheerleader was saved yet the end of the world is still coming. Why?

I dunno, I didn't mind the catchphrase. I think that it meant, save the cheerleader - you're sort of half way on the way to saving the world.
OR, maybe it's not like 'oh look the world is saved' maybe it's that Claire will go out and stop that big atomic bomb that we keep seeing in Isaac Mendez's paintings, because maybe she eats it or something. hehe. Because she won't die! they just put all the bits of claire back together and BAM!

The cheerleader had to be saved because she will be the one who will eventually save the world. That's why it was important to save her. That's my guess anyway :-)

I'm feeling in the same way you do, I'm hooked with this series since started and I watch the re-runs on Mondays too. Perhaps I like the mysterious and drama.
