Hmmm, I don't think it is ever going to be a perfect utopia, you could end up with a superficial utopia like the book Brave New World where it is peaceful on the surface, but really messed up because people are eliminated from the society if they misbehave and people's emotions are controlled by drugs etc. (hence, this would really be a distopia) or you could get a utopia as described by Jean Baudrillard's essay "Utopia Achieved" from his book America where he says that America is the "material utopia" that has made the ideas of Europe into reality--basically stating that we "[simulate]" what we want to have or be like (110). However, a utopia, like "Whooville" from "The Grinch," where everyone is all happy and such will be difficult to achieve worldwide because their will be some sort of disagreement. Besides, unless everyone was alike and no one had differing opinions, sure--there would be fewer arguements, but would anyone learn anything new? I think crime would be stopped if we were all in the same situation and had the same post-conventional mortality. Okay, there are my ideas about utopia... :) lol...

No, its a great ideal. But it can never be fully realized, because there will also be new people with new ideas. And as long as there is free will, people will choose what they want over what is right.
That doesn't mean we can't try! I'm glad we are constantly trying to improve our society. But humans love mild forms of voilence (ie. America's Funniest Home Videos). It would be such a boring place.....

I wish we could but no we can't!
When the world ends (when the sun dies if a scientist reads this) Certain people will be placed in utopia (Heaven in other words) and others will go to hell.
Hope that promotes your ideas!
