Here is a small analogy to answer your question. What do you think our Satellites do. They go around globe too. Does it mean that its performing acrobatics?? no...in the process its gathering data. Astronomical amounts of data. I am not saying UFOs are real or not real....all I am saying is, if they are real....then the flying objects must have been gathering data from close ranges.
Personally, i am not sure i believe in little green man with tentacles sticking out of his head....but i am strong believer in life in the universe. Our universe is so big that even our imagination might feel insufficient in understanding the size of it. We ourselves are living proof that life exists in this universe, so why not in other planetary systems elsewhere. We haven't even searched 0.00000000000001% universe yet. Our solar system is just a small speck in our own milky way galaxy. Our own galaxy has billions of stars, which in turn might have several planetary systems. And we know there are trillions(as far as we know today) of such galaxies. So i will definitely want to keep an open mind about astrobiology and life elsewhere in the universe.

Perhaps they don't care what you think. If they came all this way then we are most likely monkeys to them. Do you care what an ant thinks? They are studying us like we study lower life forms. We take animals from their natural surroundings drug them perform test on them and sometimes put them back. Doesn't this sound familiar to the examples of alien abductions you are hearing about. They don't care what you think. We are all just lab rats to them.

Aliens may not have concepts of vanity, pride or competition like us humans. You are anthropomorphizing the aliens.
For all we know they just get a kick out of showing off around, kinda like a flasher with a heavy overcoat?

Look, I don't want to sound weird but maybe their looking for something? Or maybe in essence, the "aliens" don't even exist, the government is just using that excuse for their spacecraft testing. Who knows

Maybe darting around like flies is normal to them. They may look at us and go "why do those dumb primitive life forms move around in in ordered straight lines so much... are they stupid or something?"
