People complain about how violent this world is and how bad children are getting but can it be said that society is leading by example? Every other video game is teaching children how to murder/steal/lie or cheat and there are a number of movies that numb us and our youth from a very young age. Several movies and tv shows lack any morality there is, ie: Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Chicago, Zoey101, Four brothers, The Game, Desperate House Wives, etc... The list could go on but I'm guess I'm trying to figure out how society expects us to better ourselves when all they feed us is negativity and things that we arent suppose to be doing?

Excellent question. The entertainment industry could care less about moral values and programming the type of media that could be deemed as socially uplifting. It only depends on what sells for them. I think that they are largely responsible for a lot of the problems that are present in society, but people have to decide for themselves whether or not they want to participate in immoral entertainment in movies, games, etc. How to change that I do not know. It affects freedom of speech.

It's sort of like a dependent and codependent situation. Media depends on society and society feeds into it by wanting entertainment. All those things sell and the media is happy to deliver. If you've watched those shows or played those games you too are feeding into it. There is no controlling this monster you can now only control how it effect you and your loved ones.

This is the most media crazy world, which in all honesty is the most crushing not only on our youth but women and men of all ages. There are all these unreal expectations of how we should look and it seems that parents just don't know or care about what kids are exposed to. We are all so desensitized to all of this that we think it is ok and normal for a seven year old to play war videos or a 13 year old to have their own computer in their room to explore the warped world of predators. All of our actions are crashing down on us and we are all paying for it somehow.

we are costantly reaching new hights and peaks in society. It is not being torn apart.

The market is reactionary, it gives you what you want. If safe freindly video games about picking flowers sold well they'd churn em out as fast as they sold em. If people wanted shows with high values PBS wouldn't have to beg for money. They feed you what you order. It says dog right on the menu you don't have order it if you don't want to.

" Escape the cage that is your life! " - Dworkin

Some times, it's okay to not be a sheep. Sometimes, doing something other than what the talking box with magic pictures tells you to do it okay.

At some point in time, we are going to have to take responsibility for our own actions, and quit saying " TV made me do it!"

Now is a good as time as any. Best wishes.

Does society make the man, or does the man make society?
If we didn't like all this media it would be unprofitable and would go away.
