My ultimate goal is to persuade 1/3 of the world's population to commit suicide and then nuke the remaining after initiating WWIII.
P.S: I also want to be a cartoonist.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

I disagree with science here. After all, if that was the ultimate goal of life, why evolve? What's wrong in being an amoeba -- so far it's survived well with its lifestyle and procreated very well too for millions of years? Why the complexity of lifeforms that we see around us? Why evolve if it only procreation and extension of life? If all evolution is accidental with unexpected mutations getting transferred over generations, then your theory of no goal at all, seems better at explanation for life.
we're overpopulating the planet and destroying nature by believing in the procreation stuff.
We in our own need to justify our existance to ourselves, define goals and plan a future.
What is the ultimate goal of life? What is the ultimate question of life? Frankly, I don't know. ;)

The meaning of life.......hmm.. this is something to think about. I have no one true goal, except to raise a beautiful daughter. Now this does not mean that I think the meaning of life is procreation and extension. Because the true meaning of life should be the persuit of happiness. Following your heart, and sitting your own meaning for life makes for the beauty in life. Like you said, to each his own. I guess my daughter is my meaning though for I didn't care for life until she came along.

I've pondered this same question for many years and only now that I am older do I have the answer. It didn't come to me as an epthiany but as a gradual realization. Life is about love, kindness and truth and how you share these atributes with your fellow man. Do a great act of love and kindness for another.....go ahead...I dare you.... and you too will discover the truth.

why do we need a reason? we obviously succumb to the first law of addiction.... survival. then procreation. and that only because it has elements of pleasure involved. otherwise we'd go extinct! and would that be a bad thing? 'nature' is not for or against us, it just is. any meaning you come up with will be a useful fiction. does this mean we shouldn't try to survive? no, recognize the law of inertia and keep moving, but don't be afraid to change course. 'meaning' is sometimes a form of enslavement.

My philosophy is taken from advice my grandmother gave me. Follow your heart, because it can never change it's mind. The way of life may be already decided but the path you choose is up to you.
It may sound simple but to truly follow it takes courage and conviction. I may have made many wrong choices in life, but I have very few regrets. This is directly because of what she told me. When things went wrong I knew I had followed my heart, and given it my all. If it didn't work out it was meant to be, and the inevitable changes was just me getting back on my path.

To know when to stop asking the Old Question,
To find the old Ones' nation,
To see through eyes untainted,
To hear a voice that's unpainted,
To feel the love of another,
To sing a song like no other,
To eat these green eggs and ham,
To coexist without fraud and sham.

Enjoy life as it is with the people you love and love you back. Keep on inspiring people and be inspired. Learn from what seemed a mistake to you and fix it before you die.
