Does 4 yr private university accept credit from community college?

(Community college name : College of san mateo)

For example if i take college Chemistry in community college and i receive an A.......do I need re-take again if i go to private 4 yr university? (I am a high school Junior)

So is it better to take AP class instead of community college course?

Usually the only credits that are transferable would be from one comm. college to another, and sometimes that is not enough for them to agree to transfer the credits.(or vise versa, from one private UN. to another). So I can imagine that they absolutely would not transfer credits from a comm. college to a private university.

Most do accept community college credits to transfer to a university. Although you would need to check and see if the class your taking will transfer. I would, however, definately recommend you taking it at the college versus an AP class. I did when I was in HS. That way, your class counts as dual credit so you get both the highschool credit and the college hours! You'll be ahead that way, while saving time and money (since it's at a comunity college and not a university!)
go for it, as they would say, "kill 2 birds with 1 stone".

You really need to contact the 4 year University. I am aware of quite a few private university's that are willing to accept Community College credits. It really may depend on the school.

Most community colleges have an acceptance decree with the state system and some with the UC system. College of San Mateo is a good CC so I know that for the proper classes they have this. ie: you can choose the classes that are accepted by the universities when you sign up for classes, an advisor can tell you which ones they are.

Contact the 4-year school you want to go to and ask them if they accept the credit from that community college class. 4-year colleges often accept credits from community colleges, but they have a specific list of classes that they accept and you need to make sure that Chemistry class is going to be accepted before you enroll for it.

By going to a 4-yr college. Seriously, in this day and age with the job market the way it is, in my opinion it's best to just jump in and do it - get it over with while you are young. The time will fly, believe me. And, if you are going to a 2 year college, make sure that all of your credits are transferrable to a 4 year college. Many times they are not and you have to re-take them. Ugh!
