If you lived in a country where they wouldn't let you leave, it would be important. If you couldn't choose what you would like to eat, it might be important. If you couldn't choose who you had to get married to, it would be important. If you couldn't choose what you wanted to do in life, it would be important. Freedom of choice grants a person beingness. It allows him the freedom to decide and think what he wants to.

If a person is making wrong choices in life and these are destructive, this is something which can be handled. If you rehabilitate his ability to be right and make sane choices, you are making a better man who can then go out and do well in life. To punish him is the wrong answer.

If you read "World as Will and Representation" by Arthur Schoepenhauer, you will know the power in a good way mankind has with a free will and it is all about the choices he/she makes.
In this book you will find that all the choices are your own and that your actions is what creates reaction. Without the choices we would be zombies. Robots are already replacing mankind with the computers that was the first step and now I believe that mankind in those powerful places wishes to downsize on population because there are too many choices to choose from and too many people that want to control in too many ways. Like a kid in a candy, or toy store. Hog wild. So now what?

Think of all the people who do not have this choice, what a life do they have? Now think how liberating it feels to have it.
You never appreciate what you have until you lose it and I think the freedom of choice is one of those things.

it determines one's life...
[you wake up early in the morning, you make a choice, either to sleep again or get up...]
if someone controls your life...
[you are programmed to wake up in the morning, get up and go to work then come home right away... and you can't change it because you have no choice...]
