Nice point, I think they would do a much better job than the government. I think cutting the taxes would allow people to give more to charity and encourage the person in need towards self care as they would not just be a "number" in the government system. I think it would bring people closer to each other and understand one another better in achieving a common goal. It would be more personal and both sides could see the good in each other.

Yes, I believe that churches and private charity can do a better job than government poverty assistance. The bureaucrats mostly are concerned with their job and not so much have their heart with the poor. The faith based organization are generally filled more with people with heart believing in the cause than government employees.
I will re-direct the money I give to government to organizations of my choice and not to government, anytime.

This is something I have always used to point out to friends who follow organizes religion, that they ought to see the hypocrisy of the church. Charity should be the domain of churches, they collect money and should distribute it in a caring, sharing way. However, I implore you to show me any church that keeps a open door policy to the unfortunate.

You are more likely to be arrested if found in a church outside of the hours of worship rather than get solace.

No and it is not their responsibility to clean up the mess made by corporate America! You have heard of "supply and demand" and NAFTA?

Churches don't have the money. In addition, one church is just about broke from paying off victims of pedophile priests!
