No, no, and no, to everybody who's already answered.

It doesn't work that way. People say 14 days before your period, 14 days after, 12 days after, exactly between, whatever. But none of that is applicable to everyone. At best those are averages and at worst they are totally made up.

It takes some doing to find out when YOU ovulate. Other people can say when THEY ovulate til they're blue in the face. That says nothing about when YOU ovulate.

So get yourself an OPK. That's the easiest way. You pee on a stick, just like a pregnancy test, and when it turns positive you're ovulating. You can get pregnant that day, and three days before or after (to be safe). Count from the first day of your period starting ... that's day 1. Say the OPK turns positive on day 12. That means day 9 (3 days before) to day 15 (3 days after) is your 'fertile window'. Do it again another cycle just to make sure. Because some women can't calculate it that way ... it might be different every cycle.

Please do it the scientific way instead of relying on outdated, made up information. I know these people don't MEAN to perpetuate myths, but they are.

It's not about how many days after your period. It's about how many days *until* your period.

Most women ovulate 14 days before the start of their next period. Therefore, if your cycles are 28 days then you will probably ovulate day 14 after the start of your last period. However, if your cycles are 35 days long (like mine) then you'll ovulate day 21 after the first day of your last period. Some women don't ovulate the average 14 days before.

Some womens bodies use a different time schedule and ovulate earlier (such as 16 days before) or later (such as 12 days before).

One more thing. Sperm can live in your body for a few days. Therefore, even though you won't ovulate until day 14, if you have sex on day 12, then you can still get pregnant.

------ACADIA---------

What I wrote IS accurate and NOT a myth. I didn't say that ALL women ovulate 14 days before their period, I said the AVERAGE one does. If you read my entire post, I even point out that some womens bodies don't go by 14 days... some 12, some 16, some a different #. Believe me, I have done A LOT of research in this area and your answer doesn't conflict with mine. Yes, she should use an OPK, obviously!!! That's what the POINT OF MY ANSWER WAS ABOUT. THAT YOU CANNOT GUESS.

If you have a regular 28 day cycle, then your ovulation is 14 days after the start of your period.

Your most fertile time is from about two days before, until two days after.

Here's a piece of information.
Male sperm swims faster than female sperm,
So if you have sex during ovulation, the male sperms will get there first and you'll have a boy.
However, male sperms die very quickly. So if they get there and the egg isn't ready they die, whereas the females survive for 48 hours.

So in short.
If you want a girl,
Have sex before ovulation, by the time the girls get there the boys will have left.
If you want a boy.
Have sex during ovulation.
By the time the girls get there by boys have already taken over.

You count the day your period starts. If you started on the 1st of the month, 14 days later you should ovulate.
